40.4 - HOW MUCH FUEL DID KATHARSIS II USE?
Discussion: It only recently occurred to me that the Katharsis II would have to have an engine and fuel aboard to get out of difficult no-wind situations. How much fuel did they use? No indications in their diary have using their engines.
Does the monitering agency dock points for sailboats making claims if that sailboat or sailing yacht uses more fuel than they should have? Isn't using the motor calling motor boating rather than sailing?
Would these huge 2300 liter fuel bags be heavy enough to affect the yacht's stability? Doesn't the fuel slosh around? Would that affect ship stability?

Katharsis II had 2300 liters of extra fuel in 7 Super deck tanks installed on and below deck. They all survived harsh Southern Ocean conditions and below zero temperatures in Ross Sea area.
