Claimed a territory of the United States in 1929 and 1935 by Antarctic explorers, Admiral Richard Evelyn Byrd and Lincoln Ellsworth. The territory comprises of the land area in Western Antarctica that extends between 90 degrees West and 150 degrees West on the Antarctic continent
Interesting video, Rick. I got the feeling already from the GPS network and the reliance of scientists on US collected data from there that MBL was essentially US territory. The position of Russkiya within its confines remains intriguing. Did the US tell the USSR to clear off? [not that they were ever "enemies"]
ReplyDeletecorrection - Russkaya
DeleteI think they kicked the Russians out-- as you suggest. Of course I'm guessing. However in looking at the situation as mere mortals, we almost have to invest "likely scenarios". We don't have the where with all to nail facts down with proof. YOU and I know-- Russkaya was a legit base and Russians are hardy explorers. Now that we've locked onto the increasing weirdness of the Marie Byrdland Zone-- it makes sense to think that the USA kicked em out-- ESPECIALLY considering the incredlble number of flights and geological robot stations that you found in this area. That's truly weird-- because there are none in the other half of Antarctica.
ReplyDeleteESSENTIALLY US territory-- eh? And the world is to think it's "unclaimed". This is a pretty big news item. This is a CONTINENT.
I'm eating aged cheese tonight in the hope I can stimulate astral travel to the zone.
